The unit operates with an annual budget of approximately 2M€, excluding permanent staff salaries. Most of this funding comes from ANR, FUI (PSPC), DGA, and European-funded projects, as well as contributions from private-sector contracts. The CPER also provides significant support, notably through the SOPHIE Photonics program, coordinated by the FOTON Institute, and through the PhotBreizh project. Funding provided by the supervisory institutions, including recurrent funding and dedicated support programs (scientific challenges, technology platforms, etc.), represents approximately 9.6% of the total budget, excluding salaries. Local authorities and the region actively support the FOTON Institute, contributing roughly 10% of the overall budget.
