The OHM team focuses its research activities around the development of new materials, the understanding of their physical and optoelectronic properties, and the production of devices in the field of photonics and energy. The team particularly has strong expertise in III-V semiconductor materials, perovskite materials and silicon. The team’s activities range from the fundamental understanding of the material at the atomic and quantum scale, to the realization of laser, LED, sensor, photovoltaic or photo-electrochemical demonstrators. To meet this objective, it has in the same place (building 10 INSA Rennes) technical resources and skills which range from the growth of (nano-)structures by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to the process of devices in a clean room, including the modeling and study of the structural, optical, electrical, electro-optical and functional properties of the materials and devices studied.

The research team has several strong international collaborations with renowned research centers, particularly in North America, Europe or Asia, and regularly participates in, or coordinates, research projects at the European (e.g. H2020, Horizon Europe) or transnational level. The members of the team also have significant national collaborative activities within several ongoing projects on the France 2030 program, the national research agency and federative structures (e.g.: GDR, FedPV), or actions at the local scale (e.g. Bretagne Hydrogène). The team also maintains close links with the industrial sector, and currently works in a joint laboratory with the company 3SP Technologies.

If the team’s main expertise revolves around the physics and engineering of materials and light, the collaborative research activities carried out are highly interdisciplinary, particularly in relation to chemistry, electronics, computer science or numerical mathematics.

The lecturers and professors of the OHM team mainly teach at INSA Rennes or at Univ Rennes.
