The Photonic Systems (SP) department has extensive expertise in integrated photonics, developing optical materials and integrated photonic circuits, while investigating their design and fabrication to implement on-chip optical functions. For this purpose, the team relies on the Nano and CCLO Microtechnology Platform.
Current research activities focus on integrated photonic technologies based on chalcogenide glasses, porous silicon- and germanium-based semiconductors, polymers, silicon oxynitride (SiON), and diamond. These materials are exploited for their unique optical properties in applications including photonic sensing, optical communications, light sources, and quantum photonics.

Related Expertise and Facilities
- Design of integrated photonic components using commercial simulation software (FIMMWAVE, FIMMPROP) and in-house programs developed in MATLAB and Python.
- Generation of GDS layout files for the fabrication of photolithography masks.
- Nano and microfabrication through the CCLO Platform.
- Optical characterization of fabricated photonic components, covering wavelengths from the blue region to the mid-infrared.
